Every Voice Counts in the Budget Process

A budget is more than numbers—it is a reflection of a government’s priorities and a tool for improving the lives of its people.

At Grassroot People and Gender Development Center (GRADE), we advocate for an inclusive and participatory budget process in Lagos State, where women, girls, children, young people, older persons, persons with disabilities, and marginalized communities have a meaningful voice in how public resources are allocated.

Inclusive budgeting ensures that development reaches everyone by prioritizing investments in quality education, accessible healthcare, child protection, gender equality, social protection, environmental sustainability, and community development.

Through advocacy, citizen engagement, policy dialogue, and public awareness, GRADE encourages residents to participate actively in budget consultations and hold duty bearers accountable for transparent and equitable use of public resources. Lagos State’s annual Budget Consultative Forum provides an important opportunity for citizens and civil society to contribute to government planning and spending priorities.

An inclusive budget is a people’s budget. When communities participate, governance becomes more transparent, resources are better targeted, and no one is left behind.
