When the Climate Changes, Women Feel the Impact First. Let’s Act Together.

Climate change is not gender-neutral. Across communities, women and girls are often the first to experience its devastating effects. From rising temperatures and flooding to food insecurity and water scarcity, climate-related challenges increase the burden on women, who are often responsible for providing food, water, and care for their families.

When disasters strike, women and girls face greater risks of displacement, gender-based violence, interrupted education, loss of livelihoods, and poor health outcomes. Yet they are also powerful agents of change, leading efforts to build resilient families and sustainable communities.

At the Grassroot People and Gender Development Center (GRADE), we believe that climate action must be inclusive. Protecting the environment also means protecting the rights, dignity, and future of women, girls, and vulnerable communities.

Our Environmental BEES Club

To inspire the next generation of environmental champions, GRADE established the Environmental BEES Club in schools to empower children and young people with the knowledge and skills needed to protect the environment and promote climate resilience.

The Environmental BEES Club serves as a platform where students learn about:

• Climate change and its local impacts
• Environmental conservation and sustainability
• Waste reduction, recycling, and proper waste management
• Tree planting and biodiversity conservation
• Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH)
• Environmental leadership and community service
• Climate advocacy and civic responsibility

Through interactive learning sessions, school campaigns, environmental sanitation exercises, and tree-planting activities, club members become ambassadors for environmental protection within their schools and communities.

By investing in young people today, we are nurturing environmentally conscious leaders who understand that protecting nature also protects people.

Climate change is everyone’s responsibility, but its impacts are not felt equally. Together, we can build communities where women, girls, children, and future generations are safer, healthier, and more resilient.
