Project Summary
As part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in 2017, Grassroot People and Gender Development Center and Centre for 21st Century Issues carried out one day community sensitization and advocacy activities in Ijanikin, Ojo LGA to raise awareness on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) among members of the School Based Management Committee (SBMC) and students.
The campaign focused on promoting community awareness, prevention of violence, child protection, and encouraging collective action against abuse and discrimination. Through school and community outreach activities, participants were educated on the dangers of Gender-Based Violence and the importance of creating safe and supportive environments for women and children.
Our Intervention
- Conducted awareness and sensitization outreach in schools for pupils and members of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) in Ijanikin.
- Facilitated discussions on Gender-Based Violence prevention, child protection, and safeguarding.
- Distributed campaign and advocacy materials to support community awareness.
- Engaged grassroots men, women, and young people in conversations promoting respect, equality, and non-violence.
- Encouraged community participation in ending violence against women and girls.
Impact
- Sensitized 150 grassroots men, women, and young people on Gender-Based Violence prevention and response.
- Increased awareness among pupils, parents, and community stakeholders on the effects of violence and abuse.
- Strengthened community dialogue and advocacy efforts toward ending Gender-Based Violence.
- Improved understanding of child protection and safeguarding practices within schools and communities.
- Promoted positive behavioural change and collective responsibility in addressing violence against women and girls.
