Project Summary
As part of our wellness circle for elderly women, GRADE in partnership with feminist and women-led organizations celebrated 2026 International Women’s Day to promote women’s health, dignity, and wellbeing.
The programme brought together healthcare professionals, community volunteers, and stakeholders to deliver free health talks focused on healthy ageing, hypertension prevention, nutrition, medication adherence, personal hygiene, stress management, and the importance of routine medical checkups. The sessions encouraged elderly women to take proactive steps toward maintaining their physical and emotional wellbeing.
As part of the outreach activities, participants received free blood pressure screenings to help identify possible health risks and encourage early detection of hypertension and related conditions. Essential drugs and medications were also distributed free of charge to support immediate healthcare needs, while participants requiring further medical attention were referred to appropriate healthcare facilities for continued care and follow-up services.
The outreach served as a platform to recognize and support elderly women within the community while raising awareness about the importance of accessible healthcare and social support for ageing populations. The project contributed to improved health awareness, early health intervention, and strengthened community support systems for elderly women in Makoko.
