Project Summary
The Healthy Ageing Fiesta: Geriatric Care, Emotional Well-Being, Beauty & Gentle Aerobics for Elderly Women was organized on 27th December 2025 to celebrate the Christmas season with elderly women from communities across Igando-Ikotun LCDA in Alimosho Local Government Area. The event brought together 35 elderly participants, including 34 women and 1 man, with the oldest participant aged 88 years.
The Fiesta promoted healthy ageing, emotional wellbeing, social inclusion, and active living among elderly women through health education, gentle aerobics, beauty and self-care sessions, and interactive discussions. Participants received practical guidance on mobility, nutrition, emotional wellness, and daily self-care, while also benefiting from basic health checks, comfort support items, and referral services where necessary.
A special emotional healing activity involving the colouring and expression of emotions created a safe space for participants to openly share personal hurts, painful experiences, and emotional burdens. The session encouraged reflection, healing, reconciliation, and forgiveness, helping many of the elderly women express long-held emotions and experience emotional relief and renewed peace during the Christmas celebration.
The event created a joyful and supportive environment that reduced loneliness, encouraged social interaction, strengthened emotional healing, and promoted community care for elderly women during the festive season.
