PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“Building Responsible Boys for a Safer, Inclusive and Balanced Society”
The is a timely reminder that boys also deserve intentional guidance, protection, emotional support, and opportunities to thrive in society. As communities continue to address issues affecting children and young people, it is important to create safe spaces where boys can grow into responsible, respectful, and emotionally healthy men.
On this important occasion, Grassroot People and Gender Development Center joins stakeholders, families, schools, faith-based institutions, and community leaders across Nigeria and the world to advocate for the holistic development of the boy child.
Today’s realities reveal that many boys are exposed to violence, peer pressure, substance abuse, neglect, harmful social expectations, and emotional isolation. While much attention is rightly given to protecting girls, there is also an urgent need to intentionally mentor boys, teach positive masculinity, promote empathy, and strengthen family and community support systems that shape their future.
We believe that empowering boys with the right values, education, mentorship, and life skills contributes greatly to reducing violence, strengthening families, promoting gender equality, and building peaceful communities.
As we commemorate the 2026 International Day of the Boy Child, we call on:
- Parents and guardians to nurture boys with love, discipline, and emotional support.
- Schools to promote safe learning environments free from bullying and discrimination.
- Governments and policymakers to invest in child protection and youth development programs that include boys.
- Religious and community leaders to mentor boys towards integrity, respect, and responsible leadership.
- Young boys to believe in their potential and become agents of positive change in society.
A balanced society is achieved when both boys and girls are guided, protected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Together, let us raise boys who respect humanity, value equality, reject violence, and contribute positively to nation building.
