Project Summary

The Agency Development and Leadership Certification Program was implemented from January 2024 to December 2024 through a sub-grant from Women Inspiration Development Centre with support from Girls Opportunity Alliance.

The project enhanced the leadership capacity, confidence, and agency of adolescent girls while addressing the culture of silence surrounding Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Through structured trainings, mentorship, and engagement activities, the programme empowered girls with knowledge, leadership skills, and advocacy tools to become positive influencers within their schools and communities.

Our Intervention

  • Conducted capacity-building and leadership training for in-school girls.
  • Facilitated sessions on self-confidence, communication, advocacy, and Gender-Based Violence prevention.
  • Organized 4 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to understand challenges affecting girls and strengthen community engagement.
  • Mentored and supported 4 apprentices who were certified as trainers to sustain peer learning and advocacy efforts.
  • Coordinated the celebration of the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child, bringing together girls from various schools in the Igando-Ikotun environs for empowerment and awareness activities.

Impact

  • Reached and empowered 230 in-school girls with leadership and life skills training.
  • Increased awareness and dialogue around Gender-Based Violence and girls’ rights.
  • Conducted 4 Focus Group Discussions to strengthen girls’ participation and community feedback mechanisms.
  • Developed 4 young apprentices into certified trainers, creating a sustainable peer mentorship structure.
  • Engaged 250 girls from different schools during the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child celebration, promoting education, leadership, and girls’ empowerment.
